How to test your website

PaylemonMany Realtor agencies have their own website, but unsure how it stacks up against the competition or even if it’s liked by Google and can get traffic. They have little idea how well the site is coded for mobile or SEO. They can only judge the site upon what it looks like visually, not what lies beneath which largely determines how much traffic they’ll get.

This means when it comes to new websites, the risk of being sold a lemon is quite high…

But anyone can test any site within minutes. Here’s three tools I like that provide an independent assessment of any website from a Google search, content and coding perspective. Aside from the dozen top brands, you’ll find most ‘second tier’ websites in the realty sector have very low scores. But this simple fact makes it easier for us to build a modern WordPress-based site that quickly out-performs most others. Giving you the edge over the larger, more established competitors running their ‘old technology’ websites.

  • MarketingGrader - Looking for a score of 70 or more. 85+ the ideal.
  • SEO Profiler – 50+ ranked pages is good, but may take 6 months to build from scratch
  • Sitebeam – A classy all in one testing system. Some sample results below.

Here’s a link to our own easymarketing sitebeam score. An independent test confirming how well this site is coded, optimised for Mobile and Google. Only the marketing and social sharing numbers are lower than desired, simply because the site is still young. (Est Jan 2013). However this should climb rapidly over the next 3-6 months….

However here’s a few more typical Realty site results

  • Metro realty in Dunedin. Long-established website only recently upgraded by their local designer.
  • Wanaka Realty - Realty site with good branding but old technology, poor content and low rankings
  • NIDD Realty – In spite of a big budget, good looks and developed by realty ‘experts’, fails most tests
